Sep 30, 2017  I went into Services as quickly as I could and saw that the Windows Update service had changed itself from 'Disabled' to 'Manual (Trigger Start)'. I stopped the service, changed it back to 'Disabled' and, for the time being, nothing seems to have got updated.

Windows Services Manual Trigger Start

  1. Apr 20, 2018  In Windows Server 2008 R2 and in Windows 7, the Service Control Manager is extended so that a service can be automatically started and stopped when a specific system event or a specific trigger occurs on the system. This mechanism is called a service trigger event. A service can register to start or to stop when a service trigger event occurs.
  2. The Trigger Start Services concept is brand new in Windows 7. You are probably already familiar with Windows Services, but the trigger start services behave differently than the other regular windows services, as they are not running all the time, rather they run as the result of any trigger.
  3. Service Trigger Editor configures Trigger-Start Services on Windows 10/8/7 and Windows Server 2019/2016/2012/2008 R2. The easy to use GUI is a good alternative to using the SC command.
  4. Feb 16, 2015  The Trigger-Start service has been implemented in Windows 7 and Windows Service 2008 R2 in order to reduce the total number of auto-start services on the system. The goal is to improve the stability of the whole system, and this includes improving performance.
  5. For example, a service can ask Windows to start it when a USB device is plugged in — instead of having to run 24x7, constantly waking up and scanning the hardware for changes. This powerful feature is called Service Triggers (or Trigger-Start Services, a misnomer, as services can be trigger-stopped as well).
